Today we were able to meet with Sally Creel and Amy Vitala from the STEM department for Cobb County. We were able to review our plan from last year and share our progress. They were very helpful and gave great suggestions for how to grow our program! One of their suggestions was to go to the STEM Georgia conference in Athens, GA. They also suggested that we register as presenters. What a huge compliment for our program! Our first Key Team meeting with our new STEM Team will be September 1st. This team will incorporate one member from each grade level. We can't wait!
We are so excited to get started this school year with STEM! To better understand where are needs are in the certification process we had our school team leaders do a grade level reflection on the STEM Rubrics. We then compared our 2013-2014 scores with our 2014-2015 scores. There was a big difference! We had a lot of teachers mark that they felt we were in STEM stages 2 and 3. Which is a very big change from STEM 0! We have added a STEM key this year as well! There will be one teacher representative from each grade level on this key. The goal is to create plan to show how we can teach science everyday, design STEM lessons that are aligned with our standards, and increase community involvement with our STEM mission. We have also added in the Engineering is Elementary curriculum to our Core Expansions rotation. Lastly, we have added a Family Engineering Night in February. We are so excited!
